Moving in Real Time
Often times we may find that we are racing throughout our day, focusing on tasks that “must” get accomplished, and not taking the time to slow down and enjoy the present moment. This drive and urgency to move forward often comes with positive re-enforcement that perpetuates our striving behavior; however, this choice comes with a major price tag such as insomnia, physical pain, muscle tension, headaches, stress and more. If we are constantly moving at light speed we are often unconscious and missing the whole point of our lives. Although when we are in the whirlwind of stress and “go” mode, we do not believe that we really have a choice to do it any other way than we have in the past. Fortunately, we do have a choice to consciously begin moving in real time. Initially this may seem like a foreign concept, but with awareness we can begin deciding if we want to move in real time or light speed ahead. We may discover, as I have, that live becomes simpler, more peaceful and enjoyable. Our relationship with others and with our self improves because we are becoming more present, focused and regulated. I have noticed that after days or weeks of setting this new intention for my life, the old pattern of behavior has begun to feel uncomfortable and distressing which has supported my new chosen habit of moving in real time. There is a bit of humor to acknowledging and gaining consciousness around living in the present moment, because in retrospect you can only imagine what you must of looked liked when you were living life from the place of urgency, anxiety, panic, and stress like a chicken with its head cut off. Start today to incorporate your awareness of your tempo so you can begin to make a conscious choice of how you would like to live your life from this day forward.
